Squatty Potty

King Minos of Crete had the first flushing water closet recorded in history and that was over 2800 years ago. Our present upright toilet can trace its origins to the ‘royal throne’, which was designed by Sir John Harrington in 1596. His godmother Queen Elizabeth 1st installed the flush toilet into Richmond Palace. The upright toilet has permanently changed the preferred squat position historically used for bowel emptying. This video demonstrates the effect squatting has on lengthening the colon for more complete emptying. When clients tell me they can only empty by leaning back on the toilet, this is an indicator the posterior vaginal wall is prolapsed (due to detachment of internal supports).
