Urinary incontinence after surgery for pelvic organ prolapse

This study showed the presence of preoperative Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) or Urge Urinary Incontinence (UUI) was the most important predictor of SUI and UUI post operatively. Furthermore, Body Mass Index and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease were identified as important risk factors for SUI. Use of transvaginal mesh had no effect on the presence of SUI and UUI postoperatively. Post surgical onset SUI appeared in 22%, post surgical onset UUI appeared in 21% of women. On the other hand, approximately 40% of women with symptoms of UUI or SUI were cured by POP surgery alone.
